With profound sorrow yet with hearts full of gratitude, we at Mount Olive Baptist Church (MOBC) remember Deacon Robert Patterson, a true exemplar of faith and service. Born in Kings Mountain, NC, Deacon Patterson’s journey took him to New Jersey, where he met his beloved Annie Ruth. Together, they returned to Kings Mountain, where he lived and served until his recent passing.
A Journey of Faith and Love
Deacon Patterson’s story is one of love, faith, and commitment. His journey from Kings Mountain to New Jersey and back again was not just a physical journey but also a spiritual odyssey. He returned to his roots with Annie Ruth by his side, both becoming integral members of our church community.
A Pillar of the Church
At MOBC, located in the heart of the Compact Community, Deacon Patterson was a beacon of steadfast devotion. His presence was a constant source of strength and comfort. He was always there to open the church doors, ensuring that the house of God was always welcoming and accessible to all.
“Talk to the Lord”: A Message of Hope
His faith was a guiding light for many. He often reminded us, “Talk to the Lord, tell Him all your problems. He may not come when you want him, but He is always on time.” This message of hope and reliance on God’s timing became a cornerstone of his legacy.
The Quintessential Handyman
His skills were as varied as they were impressive. Deacon Patterson could fix anything, from cars to complex electrical issues. His persistence, skill, and willingness to tackle any challenge were emblematic of his character: strong, reliable, and endlessly giving.
A Legacy of Unconditional Love
Remembered for his wisdom, patience, love, and unwavering support, Deacon Patterson was a child of God in every sense. His life was a living testimony to Christian values, and his commitment to tithing and serving the church exemplified his belief in generosity and community.
Reunited with Annie Ruth
In his passing, we find solace in the belief that Deacon Patterson is now reunited with his beloved Annie Ruth. Their love story, transcending earthly bounds, continues to inspire and uplift us.
In Closing
We take comfort in the scripture, 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Deacon Robert Patterson’s life was indeed a testament to these words – a life of dedication, love, and unwavering faith.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and all who cherished him. Rest in peace, Deacon Robert Patterson. Your legacy of faith and service will forever resonate within the walls of MOBC and beyond.

Robert Patterson was born in Kings Mountain NC…died in Kings Mountain NC…..in the exact same home…moved to NJ when he fell in love with Annie Ruth…she brought him back home, where she was truly at peace. Our family will forever be grateful for the love of the Patterson family. As his niece, I remember him as always being the loving uncle to all our family.
